About the Association

 What Is the BCAR?

 

The Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR) is the local association level of the largest trade association in the nation presently serving its members comprised of REALTORS®, Appraisers and Affiliate Members.

Chartered in 1959 by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), the Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® represents the interests of its members in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. Members have the right, through membership, to use the term REALTOR®, which is a registered trademark identifying a professional in real estate who belongs to the association and ascribes to a strict Code of Ethics.

The Association offers a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and tax data interface featuring a comprehensive list of available properties for sale and general property information for southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.

Members’ interests are well-represented on local, state and federal legislative issues through the Governmental Affairs Department. Networking opportunities are provided through committee service and membership events.

A large number of Educational programs are offered to members to provide REALTOR® Designations, fulfill Continuing Education requirements and to increase the professionalism of members to better serve their clients and customers.

BCAR is located in the Red Apple Professional Building located at 712 Village Road SW, Suite 102, Shallotte, NC  28470.

 

 

 

Membership Descriptions

REALTOR® Member (or Agent) - PRIMARY

You may join BCAR as a primary member if you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and affiliated with a Designated REALTOR®/Broker In Charge who is a member of BCAR.

An individual is considered a PRIMARY member if payment of state and national dues is through BCAR. You may only join as a Primary member if your Designated REALTOR®/Broker In Charge is a member of BCAR (either Primary or Secondary)

You must also be engaged actively in the real estate profession. This includes buying, selling, exchanging, renting or leasing, managing, appraising for others for compensation, counseling, or building, developing or subdividing real estate, and who maintain or are associated with an established real estate office in the state of North Carolina or a state contiguous thereto.

 Designated REALTOR®/Broker in Charge Member - PRIMARY

You may join BCAR as a primary member if you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and have been designated the Broker In Charge of an office.

The Designated REALTOR®/BIC must be a sole proprietor, partner, corporate officer or branch office manager acting on behalf of the firm’s principal.

This individual shall be responsible for all duties and obligations of Membership including the obligation to arbitrate pursuant to Article 17 of the Code of Ethics and the payment of Association dues as established in Article X, of the Bylaws and must meet all other qualifications for REALTOR® Membership established in Article V, Section 2, of the Bylaws.

An individual is considered a PRIMARY member if payment of state and national dues is through BCAR.

Secondary Member

Secondary Members pay their state and national dues through another Association/Board.

Any licensee may join BCAR as a secondary member without the requirement of their Designated REALTOR®/BIC be a member. EXCEPTION - if MLS Access is requested, the DR/BIC must be a Participant in the MLS.

MLS Only REALTOR® & Designated REALTOR®

You may join the BCAR MLS and NOT become a member of BCAR as long as you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and a member of another Board/Association. MLS Access is granted to Participants (DR/BICs) first, then to Subscribers(agents/licensees). MLS Only REALTOR® members may ONLY have access to the MLS if their DR/BIC has access to the BCAR MLS.

Remember, with membership comes discounts - including MLS monthly fees!

Staff MLS Access

If you work as an office assistant and require access to the MLS you may qualify for Staff MLS Access.
You may NOT have an active real estate license. 

Staff No MLS Access

You may wish to receive notices, emails, etc. and do NOT require access to the MLS.
You may NOT have an active real estate license to qualify for this class of membership.

 Affiliate Memberffiliate Member

Affiliate members are people involved in a business related to real estate but do not have an active licensed real estate. Affiliate members are given special opportunities to promote their business to BCAR Members throughout the year.

Affiliate Keyholder

You may NOT have a real estate license but you must be licensed by the State of North Carolina to provide a service that is of professional interest in the real estate industry (home inspector, pest inspector, etc.) and would need access to BCAR lockboxes.

BCAR's Orientation Process

All new members applying for either REALTOR® membership or MLS Only Access are required to attend a New Member Orientation program.  This requirement must be fulfilled within 2 times orientation is offered after submitting a New Member or MLS Only application.  Failure to complete this requirement within the two times orientation is offered will result in termination of membership.

New Member Orientation covers topics necessary for you, as a REALTOR®, to conduct yourself professionally and ethically.  An overview of BCAR, the Member's Only website, Governmental Affairs and the MLS is given to help you better understand how BCAR works.

There is no cost for Orientation and lunch is included too!  The Orientation program is held at the Association Office (712 Village Rd. SW Suite 201, Shallotte, NC  28470) in order to give our new members an opportunity to visit our beautiful offices, meet the staff and stop by our REALTOR® Store!

New Member Orientation begins promptly at 9:00 AM and will end around 1:30 PM.  You will automatically be signed up for the next available New Member Orientation session after submitting your paperwork.  You must attend within 2 times of orientation being offered from the date that you join.

REALTOR® Membership

Prior to attending the New Member Orientation program, you are requested to complete a Code of Ethics course.  This requirement must be completed within 90 days of application.  This course is offered for free by the National Association of REALTORS®.  Continuing Education credit is NOT awarded for the NAR online course, but this does apply for your NAR Quadrennial requirements.  You will need to have your NRDS # to login and take this course.

MLS Only Membership

If you are applying for MLS Only membership, you are required to attend the MLS Orientation only.  This focuses strictly on the MLS and not BCAR Member topics.  The MLS Orientation begins 9:00 AM and runs until about 1:00PM.
