Brunswick County’s Tracy Swanson selected for N.C. REALTORS® Statewide Leadership Academy

TracySwansonSOUTHPORT, N.C. (Dec, 18, 2018) Tracy Swanson, Broker in Charge and Owner of Swanson Realty and a member of the Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR) board of directors, has been selected to participate in the North Carolina REALTORS® (NCR) 2019 Leadership Academy.

"Tracy Swanson is a leader in Brunswick County’s real estate community and we are thrilled that she has been selected as one of twelve students across all of North Carolina for this year’s leadership academy,” said 2019 BCAR President Lynn Gulledge.

“I am extremely humbled to have been one of twelve students selected for this year’s leadership academy,” said Swanson. “I look forward to being able to take the knowledge I will gain from this program and improve our business and the community in which I live.”

The Leadership Academy seeks to identify local REALTOR® leaders and prepare them for future leadership positions within the community and the real estate industry. The training program provides a unique participatory experience that cultivates leadership, creativity, ethical decision making, self-reflection and relationship building among its participants.

Swanson has been an active member of BCAR since 2006, serving on the Election, Nominating, Strategic Planning, MLS, Legislative, and Professional Standards committees. She served on the BCAR Board of Directors from 2016-2018. Swanson also served our country as a United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant.

Brunswick County Association of REALTORS®, Partners Donate Over $40,000 to Brunswick Family Assistance to provide bikes, helmets to nearly 500 Brunswick County children

SHALLOTTE, N.C. (Dec. 18, 2018) – The Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR)’s annual Bucks for Bikes fundraiser generated a record $40,670 in donations this year, thanks to the help of partners in St. James and a generous contribution from the Gallatin Association of REALTORS® in Bozeman, MT.  Bucks for Bikes, which began in 2012 raises funds for Brunswick Family Assistance (BFA) to help purchase bikes, wagons, skateboards and other toys with wheels to give to children in need through Brunswick County each Christmas. Residents of St. James contributed $20,415 to this year’s Bucks for Bikes event, and the Gallatin Association of REALTORS®, which is headed by former BCAR CEO Steve Candler contributed, $5000.

“Brunswick County REALTORS® step up to the plate year after year to help needy children throughout our community during the holiday season,” said Clif Cheek, 2018 BCAR president. “Over 100 of our members contributed this year’s record fundraising total. We are also grateful for the generosity of the residents of St. James as well as the Gallatin Association of REALTORS®. Thanks to their collective generosity, we are able to provide bikes and helmets to nearly 500 children throughout Brunswick County.”

Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® Purchases and Packs Over 40,000 Meals on Giving Tuesday

SHALLOTTE, N.C. (Dec. 18, 2018) – November 27, 2018 was Giving Tuesday, a day on which people came together to help those less fortunate. The Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR) and its members teamed up with Pack Shack to provide over 40,000 meals for Brunswick County residents and Brunswick Family Assistance clients. BCAR’s Giving Tuesday event saw over 170 REALTORS® and volunteers coming together to pack 40,100 meals -- 100 more meals than the initial goal.

“We are grateful to our members for once again demonstrating their commitment to the community in which we all live and work,” said Clif Cheek, 2018 BCAR President. “Not only was this a worthy cause, but it was also lots of fun. In addition to packing over 40,000 meals, our Giving Tuesday event featured energetic music, singing, and dancing. Brunswick County REALTORS® had a blast while doing our part to make our community a better place.”

Pack Shack is a non-profit organization that travels across the country to host “feed the funnel” parties to provide food to those in need. In order for Pack Shack to come to Shallotte, BCAR had to commit to 40,000 meals -- the equivalent of $10,000. The North Carolina REALTORS® contributed $5,000 to the cause, and the Bozeman, MT-based Gallatin Association of REALTORS®, which is headed by former BCAR CEO Steve Candler, contributed an additional $5,000. The Gallatin Association of REALTORS® also contributed an additional $5,000 directly to Brunswick Family Assistance.

Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® releases real estate statistics for November 2018; County exceeds $1 Billion in Annual Sales Volume

SHALLOTTE, N.C. – Brunswick County’s residential real estate market is closing out 2018 in strong fashion, according to the latest statistics released by the Brunswick County Association of REALTORS®. The county has surpassed $1 billion in total annual sales for only the second time since the Great Recession, despite the short-term impacts of Hurricane Florence.

“Two months ago, we all wondered how the market would respond after Brunswick County was hit by Hurricane Florence,” said BCAR CEO Cynthia Walsh. “The results are in, and the market has bounced back stronger than ever. Even though November is typically a slower month in the real estate market, we have already surpassed $1 billion in annual sales for only the second time since the Great Recession, and we crossed that threshold a month faster than last year.”

“Over the past five months we’ve seen a steady decrease in active and new listings and a steady increase in sales,” Walsh added. “These are indicators of a healthy market as we close out 2018. “

The number of new listings increased 0.8 percent in November 2018 compared to last year, rising from 390 to 393, while the number of units sold decreased 7.4 percent, from 336 in November 2017 to 311 last month. The average sale price increased slightly from $272,052 to $276,395, while total sales volume fell 6.0 percent, from $91.41 million to $85.96 million.

Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® releases real estate statistics for October 2018

Market bounces back strong after brief downturn following Hurricane Florence

SHALLOTTE, N.C. – Brunswick County’s residential real estate market is back on track after being impacted by Hurricane Florence, according to the latest statistics released by the Brunswick County Association of REALTORS®. After seeing sharp one-month declines in September, total sales volume and average sale prices both came back strong in October, exceeding last year’s marks. The inventory of available homes also remains tight, with the number of active listings at its lowest point this year.

“Brunswick County’s residential real estate market bounced back strong in October after a brief downturn due to the effects of Hurricane Florence,” said BCAR CEO Cynthia Walsh. “Sales in October outpaced last year, and the average number of days on market held steady. Hurricane Florence briefly slowed us down, but the market is back on track to reach a major milestone by the end of 2018.”

The number of units sold increased 11.7 percent, from 394 in October 2017 to 440 last month. The average sales price increased from $259,941 to $275,139, while total sales volume jumped 18.2 percent, from $102.42 million to $121.06 million. Of the 440 homes sold in October, 32 of them sold for $500,000 or more.
