Become a BCAR Member

You may join BCAR as a primary member if you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and affiliated with a Designated REALTOR®/Broker in Charge who is a member of BCAR.

An individual is considered a PRIMARY member if payment of state and national dues is through BCAR. You may only join as a Primary member if your Designated REALTOR®/Broker In Charge is a member of BCAR (either Primary or Secondary)

You must also be engaged actively in the real estate profession. This includes buying, selling, exchanging, renting or leasing, managing, appraising for others for compensation, counseling, or building, developing or subdividing real estate, and who maintain or are associated with an established real estate office in the state of North Carolina or a state contiguous thereto.

You may join BCAR as a primary member if you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and have been designated the Broker In Charge of an office.

The Designated REALTOR® / Broker in Charge must be a sole proprietor, partner, corporate officer, or branch office manager acting on behalf of the firm’s principal.

This individual shall be responsible for all duties and obligations of membership, including the obligation to arbitrate pursuant to Article 17 of the Code of Ethics and the payment of association dues as established in Article X of the Bylaws and must meet all other qualifications for REALTOR® Membership established in Article V Section 2 of the Bylaws.

An individual is considered a "primary member" if payment of state and national dues is collected through BCAR.

Secondary Members pay their state and national dues through another Association / not BCAR.

Any licensee may join BCAR as a secondary member without their Broker in Charge being a member of BCAR unless MLS access is requested. The BIC must be a participant in the MLS.

You may join BCAR's MLS and not become a member of BCAR as long as you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and a member of another Association. MLS access is granted to participants (Brokers in Charge) first, and then to subscribers (agents). MLS Only REALTOR members may only have access to the MLS if their Broker in Charge has access to the BCAR MLS.

Remember, with membership comes discounts on MLS fees, classes, and more.

You may join BCAR's MLS and not become a member of BCAR as long as you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and a member of another Association. You may join BCAR as an Appraiser if you are a licensed real estate agent in the state of North Carolina and affiliated with a Designated Appraiser who is a member of BCAR.

You must also be engaged actively in the real estate profession. This includes buying, selling, exchanging, renting or leasing, managing, appraising for others for compensation, counseling, or building, developing or subdividing real estate, and who maintain or are associated with an established real estate office in the state of North Carolina or a state contiguous thereto.

Please note: The definition of REALTOR® is "member of NAR". Therefore, Appraisers are REALTORS® and must abide by the same rules as all other REALTORS® and complete the required REALTOR® education.

If you work as an office assistant and require access to the MLS you may qualify for staff MLS access. You can not have an active real estate license affiliated with a firm to qualify for this class of membership.

• MLS Super User (optional – complete if staff needs to Super Use in MLS for multiple agents)

You may wish to receive notices, emails, etc. and do not require access to the MLS. You can not have an active real estate license to qualify for this class of membership.

Affiliate members are people involved in a business related to real estate but do not have an active real estate license. Affiliate members are given special opportunities to promote their business to BCAR members throughout the year.
