Brunswick County real estate market’s hot streak continues into 2021

Sales up more than 60% in January, surpassing all monthly sales numbers in 2019

Brunswick County’s residential real estate market shattered sales records in 2020 and shows no signs of slowing down in 2021. Total sales volume spiked 63.4% last month compared to January 2020, higher than any single-month sales total seen in 2019.

“Our market obliterated all previous sales records last year, and our hot streak is continuing in 2021,” said BCAR CEO Cynthia Walsh. “In January we saw sharp increases in both homes sold and total sales volume, which nearly reached $164 million. Last month’s total sales volume was higher than any single month in 2019, which remains one of our best years on record. All signs point to continued strong sales activity as we move toward Spring.”

Brunswick County saw $163,890,000 in total sales in January 2021, a 63.4% spike over last January’s $100,290,000. The number of units sold jumped 34.4%, going from 346 to 465. The median sales price, which is the sale price in the middle of the data set when you arrange all the sale prices from low to high, increased 20%, from $241,250 to $289,000. Average sale prices increased 21.6%, from $289,867 to $352,452, due in part to a number of luxury sales: two homes sold for more than$2 million, six for $1 million or greater, and 67 homes sold for between $500,000 and $1 million.
