BCAR Cares

Local non-profit, Brandon's Battle Foundation, supports pediatric cancer patients and their families. They provide therapeutic games, books, and puzzles to patients that are staying at UNC and Duke's Childrens Hospitals.

Why was Brandon's Battle Foundation Created? 

After being diagnosed with AML Leukemia, Brandon (from Leland NC) experienced cardiomyopathy, liver failure, kidney failure, loss of control of digestive system, loss of vision, etc. After a 4 year fight, Brandon lost his battle in 2016.

Hospital or Home? 

Along with so many other patients, Brandon 'lived' in the hospital. You may even know someone that has stayed in a hospital for a lengthened amount of time.

How can I support? 

BCAR will collect donations of puzzles, books, and therapeutic games until September 30. Donations can be delivered to BCAR, 5051 Main St, Shallotte. Call 910-754-5700 to make a monetary donation and BCAR staff will shop for you.

Brunswick County REALTOR® Mike Boswell challenges all BCAR members to give back. Boswell's Breeze fundraiser collects donations in support of Fran's Fans, which is WECT reporter Frances Weller's program that supplies local seniors with a new fan during the summer heat.

Order you official BCAR Cares t-shirt for only $25. 100% of the profit will be used to purchase fans for local seniors in need.

Everyone that purchases a t-shirt will receive recognition from BCAR.

After a courageous 2 year battle with cancer, Mike Boswell was laid to rest on November 25, 2023.
The BCAR Cares Task Force will continue to honor Mike's wishes with this program.

The purpose of the BCAR Volunteer of the Year Award is to recognize those who have given back to our community, exemplifying what it means to be a BCAR member, and a responsible and considerate member of society.

We are not accepting applications at this time. 

Guidelines

• The BCAR Cares Task Force will review all applications received during the appropriate time frame.
• Applications may be accepted from the nominee themselves or a fellow BCAR member.
• No applications will be accepted after the due date.
• No applications will be accepted for members of the current BCAR Cares Task Force.

Criteria

• Nominators should write a paragraph or more stating why the nominee should be chosen.
• Nominee must be a REALTOR® or Affiliate member of BCAR.
• Nominee should have experience serving in other organizations.
• Nominee should have experience serving with BCAR.

Please note: The information provided in the application is more important than the amount of applications received for 1 individual. One detailed application is better than 10 applications with no information about your volunteer work. Tell us why the nominee deserves to win!

Reward

The winner will receive $500 to donate to a charity/organization of their choice.

BCAR receives several request for donations and involvement. Do you volunteer for, work with, or know of an organization that BCAR should partner with as a part of our BCAR Cares program?

There are some rules about who and/or what BCAR can partner with. You can check that out in the Policy Manual. All requests for help will be taken into consideration by the BCAR Cares Task Force (a group of BCAR member volunteers) and approved by the Board of Directors.

Every year, BCAR host the Holiday Giving Program. With help from our friends at Brunswick Family Assistance, donations received will be used to purchase gifts for local children that otherwise may not receive anything this holiday season. Donations may also be used to provide holiday meals for less-fortunate Brunswick County families.
